Will this happen - will Google buy Twitter? And, if so will Twitter be more popular than Facebook? Will Google's reputation improve with the aquisition of Twitter? I see the future of Twitter brightening regardless of Google's involvement. Twitter is doing a marvelous job already. I don't think that Twitter and Facebook are in competition anyway - though some may disagree with this. Facebook is a different social media network than Twitter. But, Twitter is the future of SMO, in my opinion. I already have that gut feeling that Facebook is slowly going down the toilet. Our societies attention spans are becoming very small indeed and Twitter knows this.
Google is the leader in SEO - but i think they are becoming extremely greedy and should limit their products. I believe that the more Google tries to compete for the title of KING of all social media by gobbling up shining stars, would breed disaster. Not to mention, as a result Google may lose their most trusted fans. Maybe that is why they have been waiting so long to buy Twitter. I like Google now - I like Facebook now and I really like Twitter ... A LOT.
